The Language of Design
On the evening of Saturday, April 27th, Eric Daum was presented with a Bulfinch Award for the design of the Private Chapel by the New England Chapter of the ICAA at the Harvard Club in Boston. In his acceptance speech, he commented that the launch party for the New England Chapter had occurred in 2005 at that very same place and that he was honored to have been a part of the organization from its inception. He thanked the client for the opportunity to work on such a unique and inspiring project; the builder, KVC, and especially the Project Manager Jackson Mello, and Site Supervisor, Jack Griffin whose knowledge and careful stewardship of the building during construction were essential for the successful completion of the project. Also thanked were Anthony Catalfano for pushing the design forward; Kenneth Castellucci & Associates; Coldspring Granite; and Foster Reeve, ornamental plaster who also received a Bulfinch Award for the execution of the plaster dome.
David Brussat, the architectural critic from Providence, has written a lovely post on his blog, Architecture Here and There about the Private Chapel Project. David has sat on the Board of the New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art and he is a former member of the Editorial Board of The Providence Journal.

I was asked by Designer Bath/Salem Plumbing to be their guest blogger for February and spent a lovely hour in their Beverly Showroom with Showroom Sales Associate Annmarie Hrycaj reviewing my selections. My choices were made based upon my love of history and design but each were items I would like to have in my own home. My thanks to Beezee Honan for extending the offer and to Jason Sevinor, President of Designer Bath, for proving this opportunity to share my ideas. Please take a look at Designer Bath's Blog and see the lovely selections made by Boston Area Designers in previous months.

Our Private Chapel project, completed in August of 2018, was featured in the inaugural issue of Boston Design Guide's Prelude. The magnificent photographs were taken by Warren Patterson on a lovely day in early October. Landscape Architect, Brian Frazier and I had a great time with Warren and the staff of the Boston Design Guide discussing the project amid the gardens.
